History

Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center is a highly diversified agency in the human service field that is constantly focused on delivering high quality, cost effective services to Iowa families.  We have contracted with the State of Iowa on many ventures over the years in order to provide services such as Drug and Alcohol Testing, Fiscal and Coordination Services, Group Services, Tracking and Monitoring, In Home Counseling, and Transportation. 

1993

  • September 3, 1993
    The Commission was formed and a 28E Agreement was adopted. Original member counties included Story, Boone, Hardin, Hamilton, Webster, and Calhoun

1994

  • February 3, 1994 
    A temporary sight was opened at the State Training School in
    Cooper Hall with five available beds
  • February 4, 1994
    Marshall County was added as the 7th Member County
  • March 14, 1994
    Moved to a seven bed facility on the grounds of the State Training School on the north side of HWY 175 in the west wing of the building
  • July 1, 1994
    Expanded to 10 beds

1995

  • July 7, 1995
    Winnebago County was added as the 8th Member County

 

1996

  • April 1, 1996
    Expanded to 15 beds

1997

  • December 1, 1997
     Expanded to 20 beds

 

1998

  • September 1, 1998
    Began juvenile transportation

1999

  • June 11, 1999 
    Greene County was added as the 9th Member County

2000

  • January 7, 2000
    Tama County was added as the 10th Member County

2001

  • February 2, 2001
     Poweshiek County was added as the 11th Member County
  • December 14, 2001
    Jasper and Hancock were added as the 12th & 13th Member Counties

2002

  • January 11, 2002
     Humboldt County was added as the 14th Member County
  • July 12, 2002
    Kossuth County was added as the 15th Member County

2003

  • July 1, 2003
    Began tracking services for the second judicial district
  • November 7, 2003
    Iowa County was added as the 16th Member County

2004

  • July 1, 2004 
    Began tracking services for Tama county
  • November 12, 2004Hired Durrant as Architect for New Building Project

2005

    Planning of New Facility Continues

2006

  • April 1, 2006
    Began Providing Family Team Meetings and Flexible Services

2007

  • January 12, 2007 
    Dean Snyder Construction was Awarded the Building Project
  • March 1, 2007
    Began Fiscal Agent services for Story County
  • April 1, 2007 
    Began Fiscal Agent services for Jasper County
  • April 1, 2007
    Began Coordination services for Jasper County
  • July 1, 2007
    Began tracking services for Benton and Jones Counties

2008

  • February 25, 2008
    Began Providing Drug & Alcohol Testing for DHS Ames Service Area
  • March 29, 2008
    Opened state of the art 30 bed facility
  • July 1, 2008
    Began Providing Drug & Alcohol Testing for Black Hawk County DHS
  • December 1, 2008Buena Vista and Palo Alto were added as the 17th & 18th Member Counties

2009

  • February 1, 2009
    Began Friday Evening Program in Marshall and Story Counties
  • August 25, 2009
    Floyd County was added as the 19th Member County
  • September 28, 2009Wright County was added as the 20th Member County

2010

  • March 12, 2010
    Clarke, Adams, Madison, Jones, Lucas, Taylor, Ringgold, Wayne, Union, Decatur, Adair and Marion Counties were added as the first 12 Affiliate Counties
  • April 9, 2010
    Warren County was added the 13th Affiliate County
  • May 14, 2010
    Monroe, Guthrie, Des Moines and Dallas counties were added as the 14th - 17th Affiliate Counties
  • June 11, 2010
    Franklin County was added as the 21st Member County
  • September 10, 2010 
    Mahaska County was added as the 22nd Member County

2011

  • March 11, 2011
    Washington County was added as the 18th Affiliate County
  • May 13, 2011
    Appanoose County was added as the 23rd Member County
  • July 15, 2011
    Keokuk County was added as the 19th Affiliate County

2012

  • May 18, 2012
    Board approved motion to hire an architect to begin the building expansion
  • July 20, 2012
    Skott & Anderson Architect firm bid accepted for building project & building committee formed
  • October 19, 2012
    Final Plans approved and project set out for contractor bids

 

2013

  • March 13, 2013
    Dean Snyder Construction was awarded general contractor in building expansion. Accurate Controls was awarded security electronics contractor
  • June 21, 2013
    Benton County was added as the 24th Member County
  • July 1, 2013
    CIJDC was awarded State-wide Drug and Alcohol Testing Contract

2014

  • February 16, 2014
    Building Expansion complete

2015

  • February 15, 2014
    Emmet County was added as the 25th Member County

 

2016

  • September 21, 2016
    Construction began on 8,600 square foot expansion that includes increased visitation areas, offices, conference room and area for increased mental health services

  • January 24, 2017
    Lucas County was added as the 26th Member County
  • February 7, 2017
    Crawford County was added as the 27th Member County
  • March 6, 2017
    Worth County was added as the 28th Member County
  • April 24, 2017
    Dubuque County was added as the 29th Member County
  • September 05, 2017
    Construction Completed of new addition
2018

  • April 27, 2018
    Sac and Fox Tribe was added as the 19th Affiliate
  • April 30, 2018
    Buchanan County was added as the 30th Member County
2019

  • June 28, 2019
    Osceola County was added as the 20th Affiliate County
2020

2021

    Mitchell County was added as the 31st Member County

    New Expansion Project Complete - Pod Unit
